class today.
During a discussion about child protective services...
her: I don't like the word "investigate." Can't we use something else, like "probe?"
me: I'd rather be "investigated" than "probed." But that's just me.

celebrating my trailer park heritage.
My parents lived in a trailer park once. Twice. It was before I was their child. And even though there is no biological relationship between us, I believe a trailer park heritage is fully nurture and not nature.
Saturday night Jesse and I attended our first monster truck rally. Detroit was alive with rednecks as Larry the Cable Guy was doing a show at the Fox Theater. I'm pretty sure Taylor was empty on Saturday night. Besides hearing that I needed to take some ear plugs, I had no idea what to expect. I have to say I was a little disappointed. The "track" they raced on wasn't very big or exciting. It is possible that I just didn't understand all the rules and the technical aspects of the race and that is why I was bored to tears. I did, however, buy the t-shirt and will wear it proudly.
And because I care about you, my reader, I will share this video of the championship race of the evening. Grave Digger took on Blue Thunder. I was sure Grave Digger would win because that truck was on all the t-shirts and hats. Blue Thunder, however, was victorious on Saturday night.
So, enjoy!

what to do.
I just got a voicemail for someone else named Jen. It's a man who is clearly calling someone he wants to get to know better because he said, "I got your emails and they are funny and cute. And you're funny and cute too." and then he did that weird nervous throaty laugh thing. And he goes on and on about how it was fun spending time together and he can't wait to talk to her again or something like that.
So.
Do I call him back and let him know that he called the wrong number? His number did show up on the caller id. What if the Jen he meant to call is sitting there thinking he never called but really he did? And then she never calls him and her one true love slips away and she never finds happiness?
Or.
Do I have amnesia and do I call him back and find out what I have been up to lately?

oh yeahhh....
Just when I thought my life was boring and I had nothing to blog about, I remembered that tomorrow is the monster truck rally.

hmmm...
Have you seen my supervisor? I've been here since 9AM and I still can't seem to find her. If you see her, please send her my way. I'm still waiting for my internship to start.
week 2.
This is officially my second week of school. I have a paper due tomorrow that I have not started. Really now, who assigns a paper to be due the second week of class? Is this a joke? Apparently not. And last night I realized that my faculty adviser for my field placement will be coming to meet with my field placement supervisor and I on Monday morning. I'm supposed to have a couple things done for the meeting but since my supervisor hasn't been around I don't have any of it done! I'm hoping my supervisor shows up today and actually speaks to me so we can get it taken care of for Monday morning. Yikes! I actually did spend time this weekend getting all of my reading done for this week. Oh. Wait. Except I realized I didn't buy one of the books and so I ordered it on Amazon. It's supposed to be delivered today. I really hope it makes it here because I'm supposed to have 8 chapters read for class tomorrow and I don't want to be that far behind already.
We had a pretty good weekend. Joanna and John visited on Friday night. And even though their trip didn't turn out the way it was supposed to, we really enjoyed spending time with them. Usually when I have houseguests I freak out and feel shitty that I'm not the hostess with the mostess but with them, I was just comfortable and so happy to have them here!
Sunday we went to Crate & Barrel and finally bought the rest of the dishes we registered for. We finally have a nice set of matching dishes! And they didn't come from Target!! I thought buying a house and getting married would make me feel like a grownup. Nope. It's all about the nice matching dishes.

i am a moron.
All that freaking out I was doing about not getting tickets for spring training was a waste of my time. A couple days ago I received an email from tigers.com announcing spring training tickets will go on sale Saturday at 10am. I'm not sure why some of the tickets were released early but now we'll hopefully be able to get to Joker Marchant in Lakeland to see the Tigers play the Red Sox. Whew.
This morning I wanted to drop off recycling in Southfield and then go to Ann Arbor to pick up my prescription. I had to get to Ann Arbor before noon because the office closes between noon and 1pm. I woke up a little earlier than I had planned on just so I wouldn't have to rush around. Since I had some extra time I decided to go for a jog on the treadmill. Of course first I checked my email. Then I stretched for a really long time. Then I finally sucked it up and got on the stupid treadmill. When I was done running and almost done with my cool down I looked at my watch and it said 10:48. Oh no! I was too good at procrastinating! I ran and took a shower and threw some clothes on and ran out the door and sped to Ann Arbor, there was no time for packing up the recycling. When I got to the office I looked at the clock in my car and it said 10:54. Huh? Wha? OOOOOoooooh. The watch I wear when I run I only use when I exercise and usually just use the timer function. I never changed the time in the fall.
Time to clean the house. We're having house guests tonight!

I finished my first week of school! I am feeling completely overwhelmed and this afternoon had a minor anxiety attack when I realized that I made a huge mistake in going back to school full time because I can't handle 5 classes and an internship all at once and will probably flunk out. But it was a minor anxiety attack so that's good. I'm sure the major attack will come next week.
At some point in the craziness this week, I decided to look into getting a PhD in social work. Because that isn't stressful.
What the hell is wrong with me?
My mom and I (and maybe Jesse) are going to Washington, DC on January 27 to participate in the United For Peace March on Washington. While I am not convinced that withdrawing from Iraq right now is the best idea, I am certainly convinced that this war cannot continue as is. And I feel quite strongly that sending more troops is not the answer. I am excited for this opportunity to take part in what will hopefully be a powerful experience. And I am especially excited to do this with my mom.

food.
It's 11AM and I am really hungry. I'm sitting in a windowless office reading stuff online. Waiting for my internship supervisor to show up. Yesterday I waited here until 1 and then found out that she wasn't coming. How hard would it have been for her to call me to tell me? Did she know I'd be sitting in the office with the broken phone? I could have slept in today. Willie Horton and Barbaro Garbey were off the hook bad cats last night and nobody got any sleep. Sure we can close the bedroom door so Barbaro Garbey can't come in and play with the window blinds. But when we do that, Willie Horton howls outside the door. At one point she was crying really loudly and then I heard her stick with a string toy make a loud noise so I thought maybe she had somehow gotten herself tied up and was stuck. I got up and no, she was just sitting there outside the door crying. Bad bad cats. So am I hungry because I'm tired and bored? I already ate a PowerBar and a hard boiled egg this morning. I think I need to hold off on lunch. And then maybe I'll just go home to play video games.
When I was little I wanted to be a travel agent when I grew up. Of course, that all changed when I got to college and decided I'd rather be a truck driver. Who goes to college to be a travel agent? Silly me. And really, the truck driver thing had nothing to do with any classes I took at the University of Michigan. It had more to do with my friend Adam's roommate, Eric, who was smokin' hot. Eric called me one day and said his uncle, who was a truck driver, would be driving through Ann Arbor later that evening to pick him up and take him to Florida for a couple days. Then I almost died because Eric invited me to go along with them. Unfortunately I was unable to go because I had a midterm that I didn't think I could miss. I should have missed the midterm and gone on the trip because a couple months later Eric decided he was a born again Christian. I had missed my big chance of hooking up with him. Bummer. I figured it meant I was meant to be a truck driver. That's why I'm getting a masters degree in social work. Duh.
But about that travel agent thing. It's a good thing I went to college instead because I am pretty sure I would have been a really shitty travel agent. The Tigers' spring training schedule was released in December. I just didn't feel like planning the trip, maybe because I didn't feel like spending anymore money? Yeah. Right. This weekend I finally decided to book a flight and buy tickets for the games. In that order. Stupid! Stupid!! Stupid!!! The good news is that I found very reasonably priced flights! Yay! The bad news is that after I paid for the nonrefundable plane tickets I went to buy tickets for the games we wanted to attend. I guess I forgot that the Tigers were in the World Series this year and many people would have jumped on the bandwagon, including the spring training bandwagon. I was only able to get tickets to one away game on Ticketmaster and had to get tickets to another away game on Stubhub. So. We are only seeing two games and neither of them are home games. Oh, and one of the games is split squad. I was very sad and feeling like a big moron for waiting so long. Jesse said he was surprised because last year we had no problems getting tickets to see the Tigers play the Yankees. I reminded him that last year the Tigers sucked and nobody gave a shit about seeing them play. I'm so happy for the Tigers but frustrated that we weren't able to get tickets to all the games we wanted to see. I want to call them and tell them that I've been to spring training for the past 4 years so I deserve something. But I already feel bad and I'm pretty sure when they laugh at me I'll just feel worse.
Oh well. It will be nice to get out of Michigan for a few days. Hopefully the weather will be nice and we'll find fun things to do, like play the doggies.
I'm feeling a little better already.

heads up.
If you make an appointment to get your hair cut/colored at a salon in Grosse Pointe and the friendly woman that you talk to on the phone tells you the stylist you will be seeing is very good and moderately priced, be sure to ask what "moderately priced" means. If you don't, you might be left standing at the reception counter with really good hair and owing a lot of money. A lot. A really not moderate amount. Especially when you don't have a job.
Now you know.
Now you know.

movie fun
Thursday night I watched my first movie at the Magic Bag Brew & View. We saw Tenacious D in the Pick of Destiny. It was the perfect movie to be able to drink beer and smoke cigarettes while watching on the big screen. The movie reminded me of the shows they did for HBO but it was different, too. I laughed really hard, and not because I was drunk! Hopefully we'll get to go back sometime soon! I see that Team America is playing in a few weeks...

happy new year!
Ah welcome sweet 2007. I've been looking forward to the new year although 2006 will be hard to beat. Got engaged to the man I love the most, quit my job, married the man I love the most, started full-time MSW program, and got an Xbox 360 for Christmas. Whew! It's been a crazy wonderful year.
What did you do for New Year's Eve? We stayed home. Both of us haven't felt very well the past few days and Jesse thinks he has strep throat. Yuck! We drank a bottle of champagne (killed it a couple hours before midnight...ooops!) and then I fell asleep on the couch around 11:30pm. Jesse woke me up and I said, "happy new year" because I figured I had missed it. But no, that sweet and thoughtful man woke me up at 11:59 so I wouldn't miss it. It was the longest minute ever. I just wanted to go back to sleep! So at 12:00:10 I dragged my lazy half-drunk ass up the stairs and to the bed and was asleep again by about 12:01. It took me a long time to get up the stairs.
On this first day of 2007 I worked on putting photos in photo albums. Jesse worked on ripping CDs onto the server so he can fill his brand new Christmas 80GB ipod with nonsense...I mean music. And law lectures. We played the Lego Star Wars II video game. It is a super fun game and I expect to have it beat by the end of the week. I don't have to go to school or internship until next week.
Earlier this evening I was feeling icky and pukey and just super tired. I could hardly keep my eyes open. I didn't fall asleep and now I am fully awake. So I'm sitting here watching the Golden Girls and wishing you a happy new year!!
