Skunk. Not skank. I am at my parents' house tonight. My mom, niece and nephew went over to my brother's and sister-in-law's new house to visit for a while. My dad didn't go with us because he had to go to a planning commission meeting or something. I was here last week and my parents told me that for the first time since they have lived in this house (about a bzillion years) they have a skunk problem. There is a family of skunks that hangs out in their yard every night. Yuck. Well, tonight we got home and opened the garage door and saw a skunk that had been stuck in the garage run under the work bench. I said "SHIT! Oops. Sorry Paige. Sorry Ian." Ian, who is 8 years old, said, "It's okay. I don't mind." I parked the car in the driveway and the only way in to the house was through the garage. So I ran in through the garage door and through the house and opened the front door so they could escape from the car into the house. Then we weren't sure where the skunk was. So I grabbed a flashlight and found the stupid skunk. It was still under the work bench. Then we had to stand at the door and watch until the skunk left so we knew it was safe to close the garage door. We were pretty sure my dad would come home in the middle of all of this and mess up our plan and probably get sprayed. Silly dad. The skunk finally left so my mom closed the garage door. The car was still in the driveway and she noticed she had left the dome light on. Couldn't go turn it off because the skunk decided to hang out in front of the house for a while. Right in front of the door. It finally moved so I got the flashlight again to see if we could make it to the car to move it in. Just as I saw it running toward me my dad came driving down the road and up the driveway. Well, because the skunk was running toward me, my mom and I both screamed and ran inside and slammed the front door. Luckily my dad saw the skunk and parked at the end of the driveway. And when my mom and I screamed, the skunk turned and ran the other way.
Whew.
The cars are safe in the garage now. I'm safe inside. Nobody got sprayed.
I wonder if it is safe to go outside and have a cigarette.
Wish me luck.
