las vegas ... day 1

Jesse and I were supposed to fly out of Detroit at 12:40PM on Thursday. Didn't quite work out that way. Our flight was delayed for 2 hours. Luckily we didn't have to wait on the plane! The wait wasn't all that bad except I was super anxious to get to Vegas since my parents and my sister were already there! Joanna was probably bummed our flight was delayed because I kept calling her to bug her!

When we got to Vegas we caught a cab to our hotel, the lovely Mandalay Bay. Here is the view from our room on the 12th floor. The pools looked absolutely beautiful! I couldn't wait to get my suit on and go for a swim. Yes, that would have been nice, wouldn't it?

We were super hungry since we hadn't eaten since breakfast and by the time we got to Vegas it was 6PM EST. We called my parents and my sister and they came to our hotel so we could all go to dinner. Somehow we found Joel and Amanda. And then we heard from Joanna! She and John, Erica and Paul had made it to Vegas and came to our hotel to have dinner with us too. Our group kept growing and next thing we knew there were 13 of us! What an awesome way to begin our time in Vegas. We ended up eating at the buffet at Mandalay Bay. It was so yummy and a beautiful restaurant.

After dinner we went to the Shark Reef with Wendy, Joanna, John, Erica and Fitz. It was really cool. I thought it would be fun but it way exceeded my expecations! There was a big jelly fish tank!

And I pretty much love any place that has a giant statue with a giant crotch for me to grope! I am clearly the happiest bride-to-be in Vegas at this very moment!

I have a couple photos of others who were also very happy to be in the close vicinity of this giant crotch but I do not have permission to post those photos. What do you say Erica? Jesse?

After the Shark Reef our personal tour guide (my awesome sister, Wendy) suggested we go for a walk down the strip to see something... a volcano at Mirage or something at Treasure Island? I don't remember. Before I go on about our trek down the strip, I have to mention the heat. Everyone says that dry heat is different. That it isn't all that bad. They were right about the different part. Wrong on the "not all that bad" part. It was a bzillion degrees at 11PM that night. When it is 110 degrees F it doesn't matter if it is -100% humidity. It is still really uncomfortable. Really. Anyway, we took the long way to get to the strip because our tour guide must have misplaced her map. Dammit, Joanna, I knew we should have invited Ernie! Did I mention it was really hot? We stopped a couple times along the way to cool off and buy water to suck down. We ended up stopping at the Bellagio to see the fountain show. Again, I expected it to be cool because I saw Ocean's Eleven. Didn't expect it to be so damn beautiful! I took video of it but don't know how to post it. I'll try to figure that out someday. But here is a not very good still photo. Joanna's photos were much better!

Jesse and I were tired so we decided to head back to Mandalay Bay. Wendy continued her Vegas tour without us. We stopped by Excalibur on the way back for a photo shoot.

When we got back to the hotel we ended up having cocktails with Joel and Amanda. We were completely exhausted but it was the perfect way to wind down the crazy day. The lounge we drank at had a cover band playing all the classic cover band tunes. The band played 867-5309/Jenny by good ol' Tommy Tutone. Always a special song for me. I told Amanda it would be funny if the next song they played was Jesse's Girl. And oh, it was very funny when the next song they played was Jesse's Girl. Apparently my fiance had decided to put a request in.

We finally headed back to our room at 2:30 or 3 or something ridiculous like that. The hallway to our room seemed to go on forever.
