i'm a good girl.

The Sound of Music is one of my favorite musicals. In one of the songs Maria sings about how somewhere in her youth or childhood she must have done something good. It is a lovely song. She's all singing about how she hooked up with a handsome military dude with a million kids and it must be because she did something good when she was little. So pretty.

This afternoon I realized that I must have done something bad, very very bad, somewhere in my youth or childhood. Not because I hooked up with a handsome military dude with a million kids but because I ran into Chicken Little today. That's right. I'm not even kidding. I had to go to Ypsilanti today to pick up my prescription for methylphenidate from my doctor's office (because it's a schedule II drug they aren't allowed to call in refills. So convenient, no?). I parked my car and was walking to the entrance of the building when I had to stop and wait to cross the little street. The car that was coming at me looked an awful lot like Chicken Little's. And then I looked and thought, "Wha? Huh? You've gotta be feckin' kiddin' me" (sometimes in my head I have a wee Scottish accent). It WAS Chicken Little. She stopped and we talked. She was waiting for a client. She ended up parking her car and came inside with me.

What did I do to deserve this? Ypsilanti isn't a tiny town, the population is around 25,000. Why did we end up at the same place at the same time?? Was it because I used to sneak out of the house with a fifth of vodka in my pants when I was in high school? Or was it the time Joel and I toilet papered a bunch of people from church and I told my mom to lie to them when she saw them at church? (she didn't have to lie!) Or was it the time Carol and I stole a beer from the fridge in 4th grade and let her brothers take the heat for it? (we fessed up about 20 years later)

I promise to be good from now on so as to never ever unexpectedly run into Chicken Little again.
