I bought the ReliefBand yesterday. Hopefully sometime soon I will make it to a movie to test it out. I wore it in the car on the way to Lansing for Dinner Club with Janet and Scott. Couldn't tell if it worked or not because I don't always get sick in the front seat. I didn't really feel like getting in the back seat to test it out. It's a very strange device. If it works it's probably because it makes you focus on the strange sensation on your wrist instead of feeling like puking. I have 60 days to return it if it doesn't work. Hopefully I won't have to return it!

i have a smart boyfriend.

Jesse received an email from an Assistant Professor at the Civil, Construction, & Environmental Engineering program at Oregon State University asking him if he would be interested in working on a PhD in their program. Apparently he found Jesse's master's degree thesis online and was so impressed that he emailed him to see if he wants to get a PhD. I guess opposites do attract. I can't find a master's degree program to let me in and he has PhD programs seeking him out. It's very cool and I am very proud of him!

I'm soooo sleepy today. We didn't get home until almost midnight last night. I think. Elvis went on stage a few minutes after 8pm and played until just after 11pm. Everytime I see him (which last night was the 6th time) I think that it's his best show. I'm a little embarrassed to admit I even enjoyed the country-ness of it.

Before the concert we met Joel and Amanda at Big Buck Brewery for dinner. I think we won't be going back there again. The waitress spilled two big glasses of ice water in Amanda's crotch and then besides lots of apologies, all they did for her was pay for her cocktail. Are you kidding me? Joel was mean to the waitress and I was terribly uncomfortable but that's probably because I'm a big pussy. Lots of jokes about Amanda's wet crotch.

I'm supposed to go see the Hard Lessons play tonight at the Bling Pig but I think I will go home and go to sleep. Sleep. Yes. Sleep.

oh no.

A really big rain storm just came through the area. I was downstairs working on some stuff and when I came upstairs to my office I noticed some water dripping from the ceiling. Great. There's probably black mold up there too. I swear if they make me move from this office I'm quitting. I don't care that we can't afford it. I'll stop eating and buying expensive purses. Yeah. I'm that serious about this.

Don't worry Jesse, I haven't bought any expensive purses since the one before All-Star game.

no blog

I haven't had anything to write about which is probably a good thing. Everything is boring lately. It's hot and I don't feel like doing anything. Hopefully something good will happen soon and I'll feel better.

Elvis Costello and Emmylou Harris tonight. That is something good. Not sure I'll have the energy for the Hard Lessons tomorrow night.

Last night I had a dream that I was pregnant and had morning sickness. Yuck.

hmmmm...

red wine
chocolate cake with fudge frosting
leftover Jet's bread
M&M's
Cherry Garcia Ben & Jerry's.

Can you guess what I've been up to tonight?

movie!

Jesse and I went to the IMAX to see Charlie and the Chocolate Factory yesterday. It was amazing! I wasn't sure I was going to like it and was actually prepared to hate it. Johnny Depp was really fun to watch and the IMAX experience is always good. Well, except for the fact that I get motion sick at regular movies, so when I go to IMAX movies I feel awful. It sucks because I love IMAX!! I'm thinking of purchasing the ReliefBand from Sharper Image to see if it works. If it doesn't work I can return it. Dramamine and stuff works but it makes me so sleepy. There's no point in taking it for a movie that I would sleep through! Hopefully the ReliefBand will work because I really want to see Batman Returns at IMAX.

memories

On Friday I was stuck in traffic behind a big black van. It reminded me of the summer before 7th grade and my friend's grandma's van. I think she and her mom and brother moved in with her grandparents that summer. They lived in the neighborhood next to mine so we hung out a lot. I loved going to her house because her mom was young and wore tons of makeup and went out on dates until really late and came home drunk. Her mom also took us, me, my friend and her brother, to the county fair and would buy us a ton of ride tickets and turn us loose. Ah sweet freedom at the county fair. I didn't think I grew up country, but apparently I was wrong. I also loved going to her house because I was in love with her older brother. He was funny and cool and a little bit punk and had the most beautiful eyes. *sigh* Oh. The van. One day we were hanging out at her house and her grandma was going to the store. We asked if we could go with her and she said no. So we went and hid in the back of the van and went anyway. When she (we) got to the store we jumped out and yelled, "SURPRISE!" I think we almost gave the poor woman a heart attack. She was kind enough to call us "little shits" and not kill us like she probably wanted to.

After 7th grade my friend and I went our separate ways. She was a cheerleader, I was a dork who still wanted to hang out with the skater kids. I remember always having a crush on her brother. *sigh, again*

A few years ago a guy I went all through school with died from a drug overdose. I actually hadn't seen him in years but decided to go to his funeral anyway. We had originally met in preschool and then became friends again in 6th grade and didn't really hang out in high school much. Anyway, his funeral was like a really fucked up class reunion. There were people there that I hadn't seen since high school. I ran into some people I had actually liked in high school so we decided to go to the little post-funeral luncheon thing. When we got there we sat at a table and all of a sudden I realized the guy sitting a couple seats down from me was my friend's brother I had been in love with! And he still looked yummy! I said hello and introduced myself and he was very polite and then he got a strange look on his face and said, "Jen? Jen? Oh my God you are a grown up!" which was very odd because he is only 2 years older than me. Apparently it took him a second to realize who I was. We talked and found out we lived two blocks away from each other. We said we would hang out sometime but that never happened. Ah it just wasn't meant to be. Making plans at a post-funeral luncheon is just awkward and strange. Just like me.

helpful hint

If you have a roommate/boyfriend/girlfriend/friend/family/one-night-stand who likes to/knows how to make cheese quesadillas and you ask him/her to make cheese quesadillas for you even though you know he/she is drunk, make sure he/she remembered to put the cheese back in the fridge when they are done.

i can't sleep.

It's after midnight and I am still awake. It's okay because Elvis Costello and the Imposters are going to be on David Letterman. Jesse, Joel, Amanda and I are going to see Elvis and Emmylou Harris at Meadowbrook on Tuesday. Yay! Joel and I saw Elvis at Meadowbrook years ago. I think that was the time it was just Elvis and Steve Nieve. Anyhoo...I'm excited to see him again. Then Wednesday night The Hard Lessons will be playing at the Blind Pig. It will be a busy week and I'll be tired and bitchy. Well, more tired and bitchy than usual.

baseball scorecard

Today I decided that I would learn how to score a baseball game. Joel bought a score book for me for my birthday and it has been sadly empty. I downloaded some instructions from the internet and came home ready to score the Tigers game. Then Jesse told me the game wasn't going to be televised. We found that Comcast Local was broadcasting a Northern League game with the Sioux Falls Canaries playing the St. Paul Saints. If you have a moment to spare, you should read this book about the St. Paul Saints. So I decided to watch and score. After the fourth inning I realized that this game was not being shown live. Imagine my confusion when after the 4th inning, they were suddenly playing the 6th inning. Wha? Huh? No 5th inning? And then during the top of the 7th inning there was a pitching change after 1 out so it went to commercial. When the game started again they were playing the bottom of the 7th. Now that the game is over I realized they were editing the game so it would end by 10PM. Assholes.

We have tickets to see the Twins play the Tigers tomorrow night so hopefully I will have a better game scoring experience.

projects.

No, I'm not going to talk about poor people housing. Hahahaaaa... Sorry. Just a little homeless humor. I know, it's not that funny.

I've been working on ripping all of my CD's onto the music server Jesse set up for me. I'm almost done and thought I would dump what I do have done onto my ipod. It's going to take forever because it has to add 1873 songs. I realized that I think I have more than the 20GB my little ipod will hold! I hate having to pick and choose. That will have to be a project for another day.

This weekend I worked for a long time on my golf hole. Then I stopped. I need to start working on it again but maybe it is more of a weekend project. Maybe? I'm trying to figure out how to do a big papier mache hole but I'm just not that creative.

Those are my two projects at home.

I guess I worked on one project at work. A guy I help at the shelter told me that his cousin was murdered yesterday. He was obviously upset and said he didn't have a suit or anything nice to wear to the funeral. I told him I would try to help him get a suit or something from one of the thrift shops or one of the clothing banks around town. I called one of the thrift shops that accepts donated items and then sells them. I explained his situation and asked if there was any way they could help him out and not charge him. They said NO. Oh I was pissed. I HATE it when agencies take donations and then turn around and sell them. I know they use the money for the programs but it just seems like they should be a little bit flexible. This particular agency makes me mad anyway because they claim to be religious and then refuse to help people they don't think deserve their help. For example, they have a family shelter but won't shelter couples that are not married. Anyway, tomorrow I think I'm going to figure out a way to get my accounting department to approve some petty cash for me and I'm taking this guy shopping. He said he's going to try the free clothing places in the morning so maybe he'll have some luck.

Jesse doesn't like the way I drive in the city. I tend to ignore traffic laws that slow me down. I try to be careful so I don't hurt anyone and I also don't want to piss anyone off so they hurt me. Since I acknowledge that I'm a shitty driver, it's okay for me to bitch about others. Tonight I was stopped at a red light behind a cop (no, not Amanda). I could have been in the right lane to go around them but I figured they were going straight through the light so there was no point. Why did I figure they were going straight through the light? They didn't have their indicator on! So I was super pissed when they pulled into the intersection and waited for cars to pass so they could turn left. No wonder nobody else in the city uses their indicators! Jesse and I are probably the only ones who do use our indicators. Although the other day I noticed I haven't been using them as often...

A few minutes later I was stopped behind a big ass truck at a stop light. Here's the thing. If you are going to pull into an intersection while the light is still red, you might as well just go all the way through when the traffic is clear. It's not that bad, I do it all the time. This jackass I was stopped behind pulled into the middle of the intersection and didn't go when traffic was clear. Then because s/he was so far in the intersection s/he couldn't see when the light turned green and I had to honk my horn to get them to move.

Time to watch the Golden Girls! Sophia Petrillo for President!

ejections.

Guillen, Farnsworth and Bonderman were ejected from the game. I think five Kansas City players/coaches were ejected, including Buddy Bell. I'm assuming there will be suspensions given as well. We don't have Urbina anymore. Percival went back on the DL. Hopefully they will be kind to Farnsworth but I doubt it.

There had already been 3 players hit by pitches before Hernandez hit Guillen. He had hit two Tigers and Maroth had hit one of their players. The umpire had already issued a warning. I don't know a ton about baseball, but it looked to me like he was trying to throw at Guillen's head. Maybe he didn't mean to make contact, but he was still being a prick.

I don't know anybody who watches Tigers baseball. Jesse is in class so I had nobody to call. So I blogged. How sad!

fight! fight!!

I just realized how much I miss hockey. I'm watching the Tigers play the Royals. I went to make some soup for lunch and while I was stirring I heard lots of cheering on the tv. Thinking the Tigers started playing some good baseball I ran to look. There wasn't any good baseball but there was a big ol' fight. Hernandez hit Guillen in the helmet with a pitch and all hell broke loose. I'm so excited I can hardly contain myself. For those of you who know I am a pacifist, pretend you didn't read this. Or the stuff I wrote the other times about wanting to punch people. It took a bzillion people to hold Bonderman back. Then Farnsworth went after a Royals player and picked him up and threw him on the ground. Very funny. They haven't started playing yet. I'm wondering who is going to get ejected. Farnsworth looks so pissed. His neck is red-der than usual.

Who needs hockey when you have this?
Game on!!

oh my head.

I have a hangover and I'm not sure why. Well, I have an idea about why but it doesn't make sense. Last night we went to see Porchsleeper play at Lager House. Kristin sang on their new CD so she sang with them last night. It was great to hang out with Julie and Kristin! I am really going to miss Julie when she moves to Amherst. Maybe we shouldn't let her go. Maybe we should kidnap her and keep her here. Hmmm... Anyway, I only had 3 PBR's and then Jesse caught me taking a swig of wine from the bottle when we got home. Definitely not enough to make me feel like shit. But I do. Feel like shit. Ugh.

human waste

The latest email from the village:

"GREEN DODGE CARAVAN 4 BLACK MALES INSIDE PLATE XXX-XXXX, THEY WERE CASING MY GARAGE TODAY AND EVERY OTHER GARAGE ON THE BVLOCK. WORDS WERE EXCHANGED AND THE POLICE HAVE BEEN CALLED ITS BEEN HOURS AND THEY HAVE NOT COME, 7TH PRECINCT IS AWARE ADN WE HAVE ASKED FOR AN EXTRA WATCH. DSS IS AWARE.
ALSO TWO NIGHTS AGO SOMEONE TRIED TO BREAK INTO M**** W****'S BACKDOOR AT 2:30AM.
LAST, WE HAVE BEEN APPROACHED 5 TIMES IN THE PAST WEEK BY PANHANDLERS OR OTHER HUMAN WASTE LOOKING FOR MONEY OR A LOOK INTO THE HOUSE. WATCH OUT AND KEEP A SHARP EYE THEY ARE WATCHING ALL OF US."

I want to go punch this person right now.

i have a vision.

I'm making a golf hole out of popsicle sticks. It will be awesome. I just went and bought 2000 popsicle sticks. Oh yeah....

(Don't worry, I just bought the sticks, not the popsicles)

anger management issues.

I've been wanting to punch lots of people. Sometimes I want to punch them in their face, sometimes in other body parts. I'm not sure why I've been having so many violent urges lately. It must be because I'm surrounded by idiots.

Here's the latest stupid thing from work.

Apparently a family left one of the programs last week. She had an extremely negative interaction with one of the staff members and took off. On Wednesday another coworker drove by the family's apartment and noticed a kitten in the window. She went to the window and the kitten was crying and trying to claw itself out the window and door. From what my coworker could tell, it was very skinny and dirty. Knowing that the family had been gone for at least a week, she called the supervisor of the program (also happens to be my supervisor) to tell her that the kitten was stuck and was probably starving to death. She was very upset by this kitty's frantic attempts to get out of the apartment. My supervisor promised her she would do something about the kitten. On Thursday morning right before my meeting was going to start my cell phone rang. The coworker who found the kitten called to tell me what had happened the day before. She was at the apartment and the kitten was still there. She saw it laying in the window and thought it was dead but she woke it up by banging on the window. At this point my coworker was really upset because she had been promised that something would be done and the kitten was still there. She called me because she was unable to reach anyone else. I told her that my supervisor and the case manager that works with the family would be at a meeting at another building. I suggested they call the landlord, get a key to the apartment and get the kitty out. She decided to go find them there. At the meeting, my supervisor and the case manager went round and round about how they would get the kitten out and whether or not it was legal to get it out without her permission. Apparently my coworker finally convinced them that it is not cool to let a kitten starve to death and they called the landlord. About an hour later my coworker called me again to tell me she was in the apartment and it was awful. The kitten was all skin and bones and there was no food or water anywhere. She said it looked like the litter hadn't been changed in forever and the apartment was just trashed. I told her to call the humane society and see what they suggested. She said the case manager had mentioned not taking the cat because the family would be upset if they return. Who cares?? The family left the damn thing there in the first place! If they are upset, it should be because they are assholes, not because they miss their cat. She ended up calling the humane society and then she took the kitten there. Later I found out that when my supervisor had promised to do something about it, all she did was make a phone call to the case manager and left a voicemail. She never planned on doing anything else. Even my other coworker who does not enjoy cats thought this was ridiculous and that they should have gotten the kitten out as soon as they realized it had been left there.

Longwinded, I know. I'm just so frustrated.

i think i might want to hang out with this guy.

There was a new response to the emails I posted in the last post. It's written by the guy who said Australian's drive on the "wrong" side of the road. At first I thought he was an ass. Now he makes me laugh. And that's always a good thing! Anyway, here's his email:

"I would give you the response from our colleagues in Germany, but "na na nana na" does not translate well from the German.
Also, anyone using a country where Crocodile Dunedee is the national hero, for a study of ANY behavior, needs to have a sanity check."

Wednesday, July 13, 2005

the village is at it again.

Yesterday someone posted this article about the dangers of drivers talking on cell phones. I haven't read the article. People in the village must be incredibly bored because many many people have responded.

This response made me laugh:
"Just for the record, the IHHS is notorious for oversimplifying issues, and producing dubious studies. Don't take what they say as gospel. First, the study was done in Australia, where a predominately right handed populace drives on the left ("wrong") side of the road. It might affect the results. Also, if conversation is so un-safe, we should issue muzzles to all passengers, especially mothers in law and small children, to keep them from talking and causing a crash. Come to think of it, this may not be such a bad idea...."

It's just funny to call it the "wrong" side of the road when most countries drive on that very same "wrong" side.

But then it got even funnier when this reply came in...
"In Regards to Mr.Rs comments about the IHHS Study and it being done in Australia. Just because Australians drive on the right side of the road, does not make them wrong. I have noticed a strange Autocratic change in Mr. R since his company was bought by a German Corporation. As to muzzling passengers, I take great offense that Mr. R, who has neither a mother-in-law or any small children, (Which I am sure if he did would not only be beautiful, but musically accomplished as well), would make comments like this on this web site. I am outraged! I don't even muzzle my dog when I drive her in the car, and trust me - she is chatty! I am sure it would cost the Auto companies millions of dollars to properly test and install passenger and rear seat muzzles, it could cripple the industry! Please don't get any Engineers involved in this discussion or our lives could be greatly altered, and not for the better!"

Because it's email and I don't know this person, I can't tell if he is kidding. I really hope he is. Because really, come on now. No. Really.

day off

I was going to get lots done today. Catch up on some work for work. Clean the house up a little bit. But who has time for that stuff when I can email Joanna all day instead?

back to baseball.

The final score of the game was AL 7 NL 5. I have no idea why it says "Scott" on the scoreboard. That's kind of odd. I took this as we were leaving the stadium. It had started to rain so people were clearing out pretty quickly. The rain actually felt really good because it was so hot! There were a ton of these creepy bugs that were flying around and they were landing on everyone. The guy sitting behind us said they were fish flies. Yuck! The guy sitting beside me said they hatch once a year and it is a good sign that the river is healthy. If the river was too polluted there wouldn't be any fish flies. I pretended that I was pleased. Then I sat and fantasized about dumping toxic fish fly killers into the river right before All-Star game so I didn't have to worry about them landing on me. Just kidding. Kind of.

commitment.

Check out this guy's hair! I haven't seen a comb-over like this since I saw Carl Levin on TV. Very impressive. If I was picking people to be on my team, I think I'd pick him. He obviously decided he enjoyed the comb-over and committed to it with a tenacity that isn't often seen.

All Star Game photo

I'm not very good at this posting photos on blog thing. Everytime I post more than one it looks all funny to me. And I'm not smart enough or patient enough to make it look pretty.

Anyway, here's a photo of the field before the game started. I think in this photo the Canadian National Anthem is being sung by the Canadian All-Star choir or something like that. Those are some big flags.

baseball baseball baseball

Whew! All-Star game is over and the American League won!! What a fun few days. I have been waiting two years for these past few days and I have to say I wasn't disappointed. It was just as exciting and cool as I thought it would be. Spending time with Jesse is always a good thing and I feel pretty lucky to have someone who likes baseball as much as I do! Tomorrow I get to stay home from work and get some rest before going back on Thursday. I'll post Homerun Derby and All-Star photos tomorrow. Goodnight!!

fanfest

This morning was Fanfest fun. Tons of baseball fans hanging out doing baseball stuff. Jesse took this lovely photo of me hanging out with wooden statues of Bob Cluck and Lance Parrish. Then there was kick ass monster truck. I need a paint job like that for my car. When we left we walked down the riverfront a little bit and said hello to the Coast Guard. They have some big ass guns. For some reason I didn't feel all that safe. Isn't the last thing the city of Detroit needs is more guns? But I guess someone has to guard us from the Canadians. Damn Canadians and their tax-free casino.

When I got home I checked my email and I had a ton of emails from Joanna! I was so relieved.

Now I think I will take a nap before we go to the Homerun Derby tonight. It's really hot outside! I believe I heard it will be 93 degrees. Yuck. I hate sweat. And I think there will be a ton of people there. Hopefully there won't be that many so I don't have to sit next to someone I don't know and get their nasty leg or arm sweat on me.

tired.

Yesterday was the first day of all-star game activities and I am already exhausted. We are getting ready to head out for day two. Today is Fanfest and then this evening is the Homerun Derby. The Futures game and the Legends/Celebrities Softball Game last night were pretty fun. Jesse couldn't go because he had to do improv but Joel and I went and had a blast. Uh, I mean, it sucked (I had to tell Jesse it sucked so he didn't feel bad about missing it. I suppose I just blew my cover since he reads this. I don't think I was very good at hiding my excitement and fun in the first place.). I had a hard time paying attention to the Futures game because they were constantly changing players and it was 87 degrees and very uncomfortable. We moved to seats in the shade and it was a little better. For the softball game we moved down to seats behind home plate. It was fun to see Willie Horton, Lou Whitaker, Mark Fidrych, lots of players! And Jon Lovitz and Billy Bob Thornton were funny to watch. Chris Webber played and got booed. Everytime he came up to bat people yelled, "TIME OUT!" and I wanted to punch them in their faces.

I would love to bore you with more stories but we need to hit IHOP before Fanfest. Busy day.

one of these things is not like the other.

This morning I went to The Somerset Collection on a mission to buy a bag. It's a hoity-toity mall in Troy where I just don't belong. My car was by far the shittiest car in the parking lot! I mean, my car isn't nice but it's not that bad. Maybe it is. Anyway, there are lots of fancy stores in this mall and it was at this mall where I first had my dream of being a trophy wife when I grow up. I saw lots of old ladies wearing tons of make up and plastic hair. Interesting. I took the skywalk to the other part of the mall and watched an old lady mall walker. At first I didn't realize she was a mall walker because she was walking on the moving sidewalks. Then when she got to the end she made a u-turn and got on the moving sidewalk heading the other way. I wanted to yell, "CHEATER!! CHEATER!!" at her and tell her that she doesn't get credit for the entire distance if she was on a moving sidewalk. She was also wearing the classic mall walker outfit. If you aren't sure what that is, you can ask my friend, Phiiiiiil. I left the cheating mall walker alone.

I did find a fun bag at Tumi. It will be perfect for taking everything I need to the All-Star game. I suppose I didn't need such a fancy bag but I really like it. One of my many addictions involves purchasing bags. Handbags, messenger bags, briefcase type bags, oh, and wallets. It's a little (a lot) ridiculous and it's a good thing I have a kind boyfriend who hasn't made me stop. Yet. Part of the problem is that I have rather expensive tastes in bags.

I didn't sleep well last night so I'm thinking I might need a nap. Earlier I actually pulled a couple weeds in the back yard. And then I put out some top soil. It's kind of gross so I hope it dries out and gets better. I need to plant the one cherry tomato plant that survived the spring!

i can type.

The federal government is requiring us to use a program to track homeless people. The agency I work for is requiring all of us who will use the program to take a typing test. It's ridiculous for a couple reasons. First of all, the program is mostly using the mouse to choose items on drop down boxes. I think you might have to type in the name and birthdate and partial social security number and that's it. Oh, maybe a former address or something. Second, when I asked if I flunk the typing test, do I still have to use the program I was told yes. So what is the point of making me take a typing test if you are going to make me use it anyway?? Oh and they set passing threshold at 30 words per minute. I went to take my typing test today. At first my plan was to flunk. Then my test-taking instincts kicked in and I rocked the test. That's right, I type 90 words per minute. Too bad that won't be useful for this program!

FRIDAY!

Today could not have come soon enough. This was a short week since Monday was a holiday but oh my GOD it felt like it would never end! And I guess I shouldn't be celebrating yet since it's not even noon yet and that leaves plenty of time for crisis.

Yesterday I found out that one of the maintenance guys was put on leave. His boss and the other directors finally figured out this guy has been robbing the agency blind! A coworker and I have suspected it for a long time but did not have any concrete proof. It just seemed like too many things were coming up missing for no good reason. Last week someone from the accounting department called me and asked about a steam vac that was purchased for the shelter. She asked if I had requested it because maintenance had purchased two and billed one to the shelter. I told her that I didn't request it but maybe he bought it to clean the shelter apartments. I didn't think anything of it until yesterday when I found out that his boss asked him to see the steam vac's and he couldn't produce either of them! Oh it's so scandalous.

I haven't been sleeping well at night so I think I need a nap.

Thursday, July 07, 2005

duh.

If you haven't figured it out by now, I will just tell you. I really like watching sports. Mostly baseball, but I also enjoy hockey (college, and if there's an NHL, that too!) and football (go BLUE!). Because I watch these sports and do not partake, my knowledge of them is somewhat limited. I am aware of the basics and maybe a little bit more of the basics when it comes to baseball. What I'm getting at is that I don't claim to know everything about anything. I definitely don't expect others to know anything about the sports I enjoy. However, I was blown away by my supervisor during this morning's team meeting. A co-worker asked me what kinds of events were going on for All-Star Game. As I began to tell her, my supervisor said...

Supervisor: What is this all-star game thing you keep talking about? Is it baseball?
Me: Yes (...and before I could go on she said...)
S: Well are you going to go? I know how much you like baseball. But what is so important about an all-star game?
Me: It's the best players from Major League Baseball (...and before I could finish...)
S: Oh. I heard you talk about it but didn't know what an all-star game was.

Again, I don't claim to know everything about anything, or anything about anything for that matter, but aren't the words "All-Star Game" kind of self explanatory? I don't know. Maybe it's just me being mean and wanting to think I'm better than her.

it's almost time!

Let the All-Star Game festivities begin! Taco Bell All-Star Sunday begins with the Futures Game and the Legends/Celebrity Softball game. Jesse has improv to do so Joel will be accompanying me to the festivities. Looks like it will be a fun day!!

And then we have FanFest and Homerun Derby on Monday. And finally, the game on Tuesday. It's a whole lotta baseball!

Hopefully I'll get fun photos of famous and not-so-famous baseball people. If there are any good ones I'll post them. I'll probably post bad ones too.

Sunday at Comerica Park is Kid's Day. Kids get to sign up to win a bunch of shit and they get to run the bases after the game. Pretty much since we met, Jesse and I have been plotting to kidnap us some kids to run the bases with. Then we would return them. My niece and nephew came to the game with us on Sunday and their parents were kind enough to let Jesse and I borrow them. We got on the field and then the kids got to run the bases and the adults got to stand there and watch. It was cool to just be on the field.

While we were standing in line to run the bases the game ended and floods of people were pushing past us. One of the people was the mullet dude. He was no longer wearing the big ol' cast. But he was wearing a big ol' tether. I do realize I am a big asshole hypocrite for posting the photo of him after hating on the village people for posting the homeless dude's photo. At least mine was funny!

Last night we started to go to the Pat Benatar concert. We stopped at Big Buck Brewery for dinner and when we left it was raining. We decided that lawn tickets and rain weren't worth Pat Benatar. Maybe next time... Instead we went home and watched Six Feet Under. I love that show!

Is it time to go home yet??

rainy day

It feels like Monday but it's Tuesday. I forgot to bring Ritalin with me to work this morning so it's been an interesting day. I've actually been working really hard on staying on task so it's been okay. When I came back from vacation one of my coworkers said to me, "Wow you were just on vacation and you look not good." When I told her that was the meanest thing anyone had said to me that week she claimed it wasn't mean and she just meant that I looked really tired. I told her that her comments hurt my feelings and that I was at church camp, not makeover camp. This morning she came in and said "You look really tired today. I mean, you look so tired. Did you have a good weekend? What's wrong? You just look so tired." I told her that I was not tired and had a really fun weekend and again that it hurts my feelings when she calls out how bad she thinks I look. And again she claimed she wasn't saying I looked bad, just really tired. How many people look good when they look tired? Anyway, I'm probably being too sensitive about this but next time she tells me I look tired I'm going to titty punch her until she realizes how not tired I am.

It's rainy and gross outside. I have to admit I was a little excited that it was raining because Jesse got new tires for my car this weekend. The old ones were pretty bald and every time I hit a puddle I hydroplaned. The new ones are very nice and I didn't hydroplane at all! Thanks, Jesse!

Maybe I will go take a nap so I don't look so tired. The messed up part is that I am not at all tired this morning. I slept really well last night even though I had a 2 hour nap yesterday afternoon. Nice!

I miss Joanna's emails and blogs. When will she be back??

more golf photos.

Julie emailed the photos she took so I thought I'd share them with you. The first one was me celebrating my hole-in-one by sitting on the hole with cocktail in hand. And the second is me and my Dolly hole.

Happy 4th of July. I have celebrated by sleeping in. Going to Tastefest to get lunch. Coming home and falling asleep on the couch. Jesse and I are going to see Pat Benatar in concert tonight at DTE Energy Music Theater. Hit me with your best shot! I think I already told you that.

fore!

We had our first miniature golf outing this afternoon at Julie's house. We made our own holes!! This afternoon while I was on the phone with my mom I made the Dolly Parton hole. The best part of my hole was you had two chances to um, score(?). The ground was too hard to stick the stick in so we had to put it on the edge of the sand volleyball court. It worked out pretty well. Others were more creative with their holes. Amanda made the Infant of Prague hole. Kristin made a Dirty Pickle hole but I don't have a picture of it without people in it. And I don't want to blog photos of people without asking them first. I am so thoughtful. I ended up
getting third place. BUT!! I am the only one who got a hole in one!! I don't have that photo but I think Julie does. When she sends it to me I'll be sure to post it. After golf we ate yummy food and Joel and I watched Julie, Amanda and Kristin play in the pool.

My family is coming tomorrow and we are going to go to see the Tigers play the Yankees. I'm excited to see them because it's been a couple months since we've hung out. For us that's a long time! I feel like I have a million things to do before they get here but I'm pretty tired. I think I'll clean up my room and go to bed. When I offered to have lunch food here for my family I kind of forgot we have no food in this house. I'll have to go shopping tomorrow morning.

On Monday Jesse and I are going to see Pat Benatar in concert. Oh yeah, can't wait!
